Christianne's little shop at 52 George St, Port Chalmers. |
When I was a child this used to be a block of flats
and I remember visiting my cousins
grandmother in the end middle row flat on the right.
Even then the building was old as it
was originally built in the 1860's as The Royal Hotel.

It's a lovely old building and glad its preserved so nicely!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I'm picturing it in the 1860s with open balconies.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a nice place...I have never wanted to live in an apt/flat., but this place sure would hold appeal for me and might make me change my mind! There is just something about it that is so charming.
ReplyDeleteWhat an elegant place to call home Diana. In our throw-away world today it's great to see that things are still lovingly cared for. I can't wait to see more of your treasures.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful old building. The way it looks now, it is hard to imagine what it looked like in the 1860’s as a hotel. And to think when you were young you had family living there after it had been turned into flats. Were you able to go out on the porch. That would have been nice.
ReplyDeleteNo, the balconies were gone when I visited but I remember not being able to work out as a child how I was looking out a second storey window when I hadn't gone up any steps to go in. Of course it is on a hill section and the door was around the back. I walked up an incline to get to the door.

Wow, that's quite old - am glad they didn't tear it down - what kind of shop is Christine's shop? Have a joyful week!
ReplyDeleteChristianne's is a high end 2nd hand clothing shop. She buys and sells label only goods of a good quality.

It looks really nice and the name "Royal Hotel" indicates something like Grand Hotel especially in 1860 only for upper class people.
ReplyDeleteI like the details of this building like the decorative pieces at the top windows and the archways on the next set of windows. I think it's neat you have memories of visiting your cousins here.
