Treasures from Timaru

We spent a wet day in Timaru earlier in the year. Later my
husband showed me these photos he had taken while
I was in one of the shops - it pays to look up occasionally :)
It's all too easy to keep your head down,
especially on a wet, windy and miserable day.

Why don't you come over and have a look.

The Hydro Grand Hotel, Timaru

Not so grand any more. I think it is a shame as it would be a great backpackers. But she's all boarded up and dilapidated and looks very unloved. Right above Caroline Bay which is a great attraction in the summer.

I remember staying here many years ago with my husband. We were told our room was right at the top, just keep going up until you can't go any further. We did. We ended up on the roof under the dome at the left corner of the hotel. Fully air conditioned, lovely view over the bay, but no windows, no bed, no anything! We had gone through a door that was supposed to be locked and wasn't. We did find our room eventually but I think we ended up down at reception again first.
