Cargill Monument



Monument built to the memory of William Cargill,
 leader of the Free Church migration to Otago, New Zealand,
 and first superintendent of the province.

  1. At first I thought that this was a steeple that had lost its church. A might tall memorial, William Cargill must have been an important man. Thanks Diana for sharing this week and I hope to see more kiwi treasures in the future.

  5. Very much like a steeple that missed being placed up high. Is that a fountain basin at the base?

    1. Yes, though they are not in use. Drinking fountains were included in the original design.

  8. I love all the intricate sculpture on the memorial monument. It seems like I saw one similar to this in Oxford. It looks like you can go inside. I bet that would be interesting.
